BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia: BCCI President Roger Binny has appointed Devjit Saikia as the Executive Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He has replaced Jay Shah, who has taken over as the new chairman of ICC from December 1. Until someone is appointed to the post of secretary permanently, Saikia will remain on the post of interim secretary. Let us tell you that Jay Shah was holding the post of Secretary of BCCI since the year 2019, but now Binny has used his constitutional powers to hand over this post to Devjit Saikia.
Roger Binny made the announcement saying, “In view of the circumstances and under the rules of BCCI, I am handing over the charge of the post of Secretary to you until a permanent appointment is made to this post. I am confident that you will act with your ability and pride.” Will follow the tasks with.” Saikia will remain on the post of executive secretary till September next year. Let us tell you that BCCI will have to make a new appointment within 45 days of the vacancy of the post of Secretary, hence at present Devjit Saikia has been made the acting Secretary.
Who is Devjit Saikia?
Devjit Saikia has been a first-class cricketer in India, apart from being an advocate, he also has experience in cricket administration. He comes from Assam and has also represented his state in Ranji Trophy. Saikia used to play the role of wicketkeeper and middle order batsman during his cricket career. He has been the Joint Secretary of BCCI since the year 2022 and has made important contribution in carrying out many big works under the leadership of Jay Shah.
Apart from this, Saikia has been holding the post of General Secretary of Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) since May 2023. He played only 4 matches for Assam in his first-class career in which he scored 53 runs. In the role of a wicketkeeper, he took 8 catches and also stumped a batsman.
