Rajkot: India's young batsman Tilak Verma has created a new history in T20 cricket. Tilak, who is captaining Hyderabad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024, has become the first Indian batsman to score three consecutive centuries in T20 cricket history.

Tilak achieved this feat during the match against Meghalaya in Rajkot. Tilak, who came to bat at number three, scored 151 runs in only 67 balls. In this way, he became the first Indian player to score 150 or more runs in a T20 innings.

Tilak has also become the batsman with the highest individual score in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. During his marathon innings he hit 14 fours and 10 sixes. In this way Tilak scored 116 runs only through boundaries. His 24 boundaries are also the most in SMAT history. He completed his half-century in 28 balls and completed his century in 51 balls.

22-year-old Tilak had earlier played an unbeaten century of 107 runs on 56 balls in the third T20 match against South Africa on 13 November. Now on 23 November, while playing for Hyderabad, Tilak scored his third consecutive century in T20 cricket by playing a historic inning of 151 runs against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

This year-old left-handed batsman had recently scored two consecutive T20 International centuries in South Africa. With this, he also became the player who scored the highest individual score in the history of the tournament. Earlier this record was held by Shreyas Iyer of Mumbai. Iyer had played an inning of 147 runs. Tilak is one of the five players retained by Mumbai Indians (MI) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
