Galle (Sri Lanka), 28 September. Forced to follow on in the second Test against Sri Lanka here on Saturday, New Zealand is in danger of suffering its biggest defeat in Test cricket.
New Zealand started the day at 22 for two and lost the remaining eight wickets of the first innings in the morning session, reducing the team to 88 runs. The visiting team lagged by 514 runs on the basis of first innings.
88 runs – year 2024
In the second test match, Sri Lanka came to bat first. With the help of brilliant centuries from Dinesh Chandimal (116), Kamindu Mendis (182) and Kusal Mendis (106), they made a mountain-like score of 602/5. In reply, New Zealand could play only 39.5 overs and returned to the pavilion for 88 runs. The highest score from Mitchell Santner's bat was 29 runs. Prabath Jayasuriya took six wickets for 42 runs while debutant off-spinner Nishan Peiris took three wickets for 33 runs.
102 runs – year 1992
