Jodhpur: Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan admitted that he had no 'motivation' left to play domestic cricket to make it to the national team and that was the reason he decided to retire from the game last month. After playing 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20 Internationals for India between 2013 and 2022, 38-year-old Dhawan decided to retire from international and domestic cricket in August. Speaking on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket, a retired cricketer's tournament, Dhawan said, “I did not want to play domestic cricket which I started playing at the age of 18 or 19. I did not have the motivation to play this format of cricket.” Dhawan became India's 25th captain in ODIs against Sri Lanka in 2021 when he took over the captaincy in place of Rohit.

He scored 6769 runs in 222 matches in the IPL including two centuries and 51 half-centuries. His 768 fours in the tournament are the most fours hit by any batsman and he also achieved the feat of becoming the first batsman to score consecutive centuries in the IPL.
