Gary Kirsten Replacement Pakistan Head Coach: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday that Gary Kirsten has resigned from the post of Pakistan's ODI and T20 coach. This decision of Kirsten has come when PCB had announced that now coaches will not have any contribution in the selection of the team. Now Champions Trophy 2025 is approaching and Pakistan does not have any coach. Now the question is who will become the coach of the Pakistan team in place of Kirsten?
A PCB source has said, “Now the situation is such that in view of the Champions Trophy next year, the Pakistan team now needs a new white ball coach. One option is that Azhar Mahmood is currently appointed as the interim head coach. Apart from him, Chief Selector Aaqib Javed or Saqlain Mushtaq can also take over as head coach.”
Saqlain Mushtaq has already been the head coach of Pakistan cricket team. He was appointed the interim head coach of the team in September 2021 and in the next one year, the Pakistan team performed brilliantly under him, hence his contract as interim head coach was extended for one year. The source has said that there are many other candidates for the post of head coach and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi may soon meet all the selected candidates.
Let us also tell you that till now Pakistan Cricket Board has not issued any statement as to why Gary Kirsten has resigned. On the other hand, no formal statement has come from the South African giant either. But not having a head coach before a big ICC tournament is a matter of great concern for the Pakistan team. Let us also tell you that at the peak of his career, Saqlain Mushtaq was very powerful over Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.
