South Africa batted first after losing the toss and scored 124 runs in 20 overs. The job of handling their innings was done by Nondumiso Shangase, who scored 35 runs in 31 balls. Apart from him, Sune Luus scored 21 runs and Henry Derksen scored 19 runs in 12 balls to support the team to some extent. However, England's bowling did not give the South African batsmen a chance to play freely. Charlie Dean took 3 important wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs.
