New Delhi : There is an uproar in Bangladesh cricket after the crushing defeat in the Test series and T20I series against India. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended head coach Chandika Hathurusingha on disciplinary grounds, the process of her suspension will start in 48 hours.

Phil Simmons appointed new coach
This decision was announced by BCB President Farooq Ahmed during a press conference on Tuesday. In place of Hathurusingha, former West Indies coach Phil Simmons has been appointed as the interim coach till the Champions Trophy 2025.

Chandika Hathurusingha suspended with immediate effect
Hathurusingha became the head coach of Bangladesh for the second time in February 2023, a few months before the ODI World Cup. But, during his first term he had to face severe criticism. From 2014 to 2017, Bangladesh achieved success in ODI series against top teams and made it to the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup.

In his second stint, the Bangladeshi team under Hathurusingha won 5 out of 10 Test matches, 13 out of 35 ODI matches and 19 out of 35 T20I matches. Recently they won the test series in Pakistan. But his performance in ICC tournaments was average. Bangladesh's disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024 further increased the pressure on the head coach.

The player was slapped
A major incident involving Hathurusinghe's suspension is inappropriate behavior towards a player. He was accused of slapping the cricketer and after a thorough investigation, the BCB has confirmed that the allegations were true.

The BCB President said, 'Such incidents have happened, which were painful for me to hear as a former cricketer. Harassment of a cricketer was one reason and taking leave without permission is another issue. After 48 hours, we will start the process of his dismissal.
