Important decisions taken in the apex council meeting
Decisions on retention and many other issues were taken in the IPL Apex Council meeting. The apex council has allowed IPL franchises to retain a maximum of six players from previous teams. It will also include a Right to Match (RTM) card in the auction. In the last mega auction held in 2022, a team was allowed to retain a maximum of four players.
Increase in salary cap
Out of the six, any franchise will be able to retain a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players, including Indians and foreigners. That is, if a team has taken five capped players, then it will have to retain the sixth player uncapped. At the same time, the auction purse for IPL 2025 has also been increased and it has been increased to Rs 120 crore. The total salary cap will now include auction purse, incremental performance pay and match fees. Earlier, the salary cap including auction purse and incremental performance pay was Rs 110 crore. It will increase to Rs 151 crore in 2026 and Rs 157 crore in 2027.
There will be penalty for not playing the season after being selected in the auction.
Any player who registers for the player auction and, after being selected in the auction, makes himself unavailable before the start of the season will be banned from participating in the tournament and player auction for two seasons. Apart from this, any foreign player will have to register to participate in the big auction. If a foreign player does not register he will be ineligible for registration in the next year's player auction.
