Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: The closing ceremony of the 52nd Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial ( Outdoor) Cricket and Volleyball Tournament organized at CSIR-NBRI was held on Sunday. In this, prizes were given to the winning teams.
The tournament was organized under the supervision of CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow and CSIR-Sports Promotion Board, New Delhi. The participants and guests at the function were welcomed by Dr. Ajit Kumar Shashani, Director, CSIR-NBRI. Dr. Shashani awarded the zonal trophy to the winning teams of the first zonal qualifier.
From the volleyball tournament, two teams CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad and CSIR-CGCRI, Kolkata won their qualifier matches. In the cricket tournament, CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad and CSIR-IIIM, Jammu team emerged victorious as the qualifier teams from First Zonal.
Chief Scientist and Organizing Secretary Dr. Sharad Srivastava presented the tournament report. He told that during the tournament, 12 league matches were played for volleyball and 9 league matches were played for cricket. The objective of the event was to promote teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy competition, as well as provide a platform to CSIR personnel to showcase their skills.
India International Science Festival will be organized from 30 November to 3 December at IIT Guwahati. Its preview program (Curtain Raiser) was also organized in the closing ceremony. The chief guest of this preview program was Dr. Arvind Mathur, President of Vigyan Bharati Avadh Province. On this occasion, Dr. Sushmita Benjwal, Observer of Sports Promotion Board, New Delhi, Dr. Shri Krishna Tiwari, Chief Scientist and others were present. At the end of the closing ceremony, Dr. Sandeep Behera, senior scientist of the institute and secretary of the staff club, thanked everyone.
