Fakhar Zaman was part of Category B in the central contract last season. Babar Azam was rested for the second and third Tests against England. In such a situation, Fakhar Zaman had criticized this decision of Pakistan Cricket Board on X. Shortly after this, he was dropped from the central contract. PCB had also issued a show cause notice to Fakhar Zaman on his post.

- Fakhar Zaman was a part of the central contract continuously for the last 8 years. And
- He was last seen playing in the T20 World Cup 2024.
- The performance of Pakistan team in the tournament was not anything special.
- The team was out of the league stage itself.
- Many big names like Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Imam-ul-Haq are also not included in the new list of centrally contracted players.
