Pakistan cricket is a circus... Jason Gillespie will be dismissed from the post of head coach, PCB took a big decision

Changes are going on in Pakistan cricket since last year. After the ODI World Cup, even the head coach, selectors and captain have resigned. Now there is news that Jason Gillespie will also be removed from the post of head coach. Aaqib Javed has been appointed in his place. PCB can announce the new head coach on Monday.

Sports Desk, New Delhi. After the embarrassing defeat in the T20I series against Australia, PCB has decided to remove Jason Gillespie from the post of head coach. Former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed will be made the head coach in place of Gillespie. Jason Gillespie was made the interim coach for the Australia tour. Because white ball head coach Gary Kirsten had resigned from his post.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, PCB may announce the new head coach on Monday. The current T20I series against Australia could be Gillespie's last match as coach. This decision of PCB has created turmoil. However, Aaqib was not the PCB's first choice. The board had initially asked Gillespie to take over as all-format coach until the end of the Champions Trophy the following March, however, they were told Gillespie turned down the offer.

Gillespie rejected the offer

In such a situation, the PCB decided that they did not want to keep him as the head coach of the red-ball team and started searching for an all-format coach. However, the PCB official attributed the decision to replace Gillespie to him not spending enough time in Pakistan.

After the PCB began searching for a coach, they initially considered the possibility of promoting Azhar Mahmood or appointing Saqlain Mushtaq, who served as the coach until 2021–22. However, neither of them got enough support from the PCB's advisory board, leading to Aaqib being given the position.

Turmoil in PCB regarding head coach

  • 28 April – The PCB appointed Gary Kirsten as white ball coach and Gillespie as red ball coach.
  • 28 October – Kirsten resigns as white ball coach.
  • 30 October – Gillespie was appointed short-term white ball coach for the Australian tour.
  • 17 November – Gillespie is set to be removed from the post of head coach of Pakistan.

There is no domestic cricket for two months

It is noteworthy that Pakistan will not play domestic cricket for the next two months, but will go directly to Zimbabwe from Australia. After this they will play a series of Test, ODI and T20I matches in South Africa. Pakistan will organize a two-Test series against West Indies in late January next year. A triangular series will be played against South Africa and New Zealand in February.
