Pakistan cricket team is going through its worst phase. After losing to weaker teams, now even the captain is leaving the Pakistan team. Babar Azam announced his resignation from the white ball captaincy on October 2, which created a stir in the Pakistan cricket world. Babar also revealed the reason behind leaving the captaincy. He told that he wants to concentrate completely on his batting, hence he is leaving the captaincy. After Babar's resignation from the captaincy post, former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has praised the number-1 ODI batsman. He has also raised questions on the timing of Babar Azam leaving the captaincy.
Pakistan cricket in crisis
Babar's resignation came at a time when Pakistan team is ready to play a 3-match Test series against England. The first match of this Test series will be played in Multan from 7th October. Rashid Latif said while talking to AFP that there is a leadership crisis in the Pakistan team. Pakistan cricket is in ICU and there is no specialist for treatment. Babar should not have accepted captaincy again. He said that neither the team was performing well nor Babar was scoring big. This resignation has come very late and has caused huge loss not only to him but also to the team.
The team is looking for a new captain
Pakistan cricket team is constantly facing criticism due to poor performance. Not only the fans but also former cricketers are criticizing the players of Pakistan team. For the last few years, Pakistan cricket has been performing poorly in ICC events as well as bilateral series. After the 2023 50 over World Cup, the team also played poorly in the T20 World Cup 2024. The result was that Pakistan team could not even go beyond the group stage. Now ICC Champions Trophy is to be organized on Pakistan soil next year. In such a situation, there is huge pressure on Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Now it has to be seen who gets the captaincy in place of Babar Azam in the limited overs format.
