New Delhi: There is a lot of craze for cricket among the youth, but the prices of cricket bats and other types of cricket kits required to play the game of cricket are increasing in the market. In such a situation, sometimes even the guardians are unable to provide skyrocketing cricket products to their children. But now as an alternative, sports products made of plastic are being manufactured on a large scale in Sports City, which are in demand throughout the country.
There are thousands of places to sell sports products in Surajkund of Meerut. Here sports goods can be purchased not only in retail but also in wholesale. ETV Bharat spoke to people making many plastic products. He says that during the Corona period, when life was disrupted, the demand for plastic bats had increased.
Now gradually this business is increasing. Vijay Chaudhary, who is involved in the manufacturing of plastic sports products, says that plastic bats are in demand in the entire country. He says that although many other sports products are being made in Meerut, at present cricket bats are being made the most.
Sports goods wholesaler Nitin Katiyar said that in recent times he has focused most of his work on the supply of plastic bats. He says that on the one hand, these bats are very attractive to the children and youth who are starting cricket, on the other hand, the industry was facing problems due to the shortage of English willow, it seems as if the solution to that problem has also been found with the introduction of plastic bats. It has happened, cricket lovers are very fond of bats made of plastic to play with tennis balls. He is continuously receiving orders from all over the country, which he is not able to fulfill. He says that many times there are complaints about wooden bats, while there are new complaints about them.
Gaurav, who has been running a sports goods shop on Meerut's Sports Market Surajkund Road for several generations, says that in the last three years, both the production and sale of plastic bats have increased. When new trends were introduced in the market, people did not believe so much. But now people are liking the cricket matches which are being played with tennis balls. Firstly, their weight is very less and secondly, these cricket bats attract the beginners also. If you buy a Kashmir willow bat, it will also cost you at least one thousand rupees whereas the price of plastic bat is also less. Secondly, their weight also remains low and they are also liked a lot.
Regarding this, Deputy Commissioner Industries Deependra Kumar says that Meerut is known for sports goods, all the sports products made here come under ODOP. New entrepreneurs are also manufacturing sports products, he says that willow is required for cricket bats, hence there was a shortage of willow be it Kashmir willow or English willow.
Till now, about 100 such industries are operating in Meerut, which are manufacturing plastic bats. Their annual turnover is also in crores. Along with the domestic market, these industries are also exporting.
