Kamindu Mendis World Record: Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis is setting new records match after match. Now, on the first day of the second Test match against New Zealand, which started on 26 September, he has created another record, which has never happened in the 147 year history of Test cricket. Kamindu Mendis's new record
Kamindu Mendis has now become the first player in the 147-year history of Test cricket to score 50 runs or more in all the first eight matches after his Test debut. Mendis has gone ahead in terms of scoring consecutive fifties since debut, but the record of scoring 50 or more runs consecutively in Test matches is in the name of West Indies' Vivian Richards. He has scored 50 runs or more in 11 consecutive matches.
Mendis had played an inning of 114 runs in the first innings of the first match of the current series against New Zealand. Now he is unbeaten after scoring 51 runs in the first innings of the second test match. There is a partnership of 85 runs between Mathews and Mendis.
Mendis close to making history
Kamindu Mendis is very close to scoring the fastest 1,000 runs for Sri Lanka in the history of Test cricket. So far, he has scored 873 runs in 13 innings of 8 matches and till now he has scored runs at an excellent average of 79.36. The fastest batsman to score 1000 runs in Test matches for Sri Lanka is Roy Dias, who took 23 innings to cross this figure, but Mendis can achieve this feat in 15 innings or even earlier.
