Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, all 10 franchises will have to submit the list of their retained and released players. Its last date is 31st October. This time there have been some changes in the rules and teams will also have the option of 'Right to Match'. But here some fans will definitely have a question in their mind that what is this rule and how will it work.
The first rule is that a franchise can retain a maximum of six players, either in the retention phase or through right-to-match cards during the mega auction. Of these, a maximum of five players can be capped while a maximum of two players can be uncapped.
The right to match rule was first implemented in 2017, but it was removed in the 2022 mega auction. Now it has been implemented again. This rule gives the franchise an opportunity to buy back a player who was part of that team in the previous season.
When a player goes to the auction after his release, many teams bid on him. After the bid is placed, the releasing team is asked whether they want to use RTM for this player?
That is, if a player of a team from the previous season is now being sold again in the auction, then that team gets an “RTM Card”. This means that it can buy the player back. In such a situation, if the old team uses RTM, then it has to pay the amount of the last bid made in the auction for that player. Whereas if the old team does not use RTM, then the team making the last bid buys that player.
This rule is most in the news regarding IPL 2025 and is also increasing the excitement of the auction. Apart from these, some other important rules- Now every team will have a budget of Rs 120 crore, for which they will have to bid on their players. Players who have not played international cricket for 5 years or have retired will be counted as uncapped players. The list of retained players will have to be submitted before 31 October 2024.
What is the retention deadline for IPL 2025?
All 10 teams will have to finalize their retention for IPL 2025 by 5 pm on Thursday, October 31. This means that before 5 pm, IPL will have the list of retained players and after a few moments, the information will be made public about which franchise has retained which players and for how much.
