The ongoing mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for IPL 2025 ended on Monday night. The auction lasted for two days in which all 10 franchises named their teams. Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant was the most expensive player who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore. Apart from Pant, Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore and Venkatesh Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 23.75 crore. Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal went to Punjab Kings team for Rs 18 crore each.
Bidding took place on a total of 182 players
A total of 577 players were involved in the mega auction that lasted for two days. Of these, 182 players were sold, while no one bid for 395 players. Out of 182, 62 were foreign players. At the same time, 10 teams together used a total of eight Right to Match cards. All 10 franchises together spent Rs 639.15 crore in this auction. While the dominance of the batsmen and all-rounders was visible on the first day, the Indian fast bowlers dominated on the second day.
Vaibhav surprised, crossed the figure of 25+ crores
This time 13 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi also entered the auction whose base price was Rs 30 lakh. Vaibhav was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the auction for Rs 1.10 crore and he became the youngest player to be sold in the IPL auction. The figure of Rs 25+ crore was crossed for the first time in this auction. Last year, in the mini auction, two players, Cummins and Starc, crossed the Rs 20 crore mark for the first time, while this year Pant and Shreyas crossed the Rs 25 crore mark.
