First equation of semi-final
Let us try to explain the scenario of the semi-finals to you in simple language. Australia are certain to reach the semi-finals from Group A provided they do not lose by a big margin. Australia can be out only under one condition. If India beats them by a big margin and New Zealand also wins by so many runs that their net run rate becomes more than Australia. In such a condition, Australia will be out and New Zealand will reach the semi-finals along with India from Group A.
Second equation of semi-final
Suppose the Indian team, batting first, scores 150 runs against Australia and the Kangaroo team loses the match by 61 or more runs, then Team India will directly reach the semi-finals. The second condition is that if India beats Australia by 20 runs, then they have to hope that New Zealand's victory margin against Pakistan does not exceed 37 runs. In such a situation, New Zealand's NRR will be less than India and we will reach the semi-finals.
Third equation of semi-final
If the Indian team loses the match and New Zealand wins then Team India will be out of the tournament. But if India also loses its match with New Zealand, then the margin of defeat of New Zealand does not reduce by 16 runs from the margin of defeat of India, then the net run rate of the Indian team will reduce and despite losing, New Zealand will reach the semi-finals.
