New Delhi/Karachi. The Sports Ministry has approved the Indian cricket team to tour Pakistan to participate in the Blind T20 World Cup. The ministry gave this approval on Tuesday. However, the 17-member cricket team's tour of Pakistan is yet to get the green signal from the Ministry of Home and External Affairs.
The blind cricket team has received approval to tour Pakistan at a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear that their team cannot tour Pakistan for next year's Champions Trophy. After BCCI's refusal, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is talking about going to international court. On the other hand, ICC (International Cricket Council) has sought answers from Pakistan on hosting the hybrid model.
The fourth Blind World Cup will be played in Lahore and Multan from November 22 to December 3. India is the current champion of this tournament. After getting approval from the concerned ministries, the Indian team will go to Pakistan via Wagah Border on 21st November. Meanwhile, Indian Blind Cricket Association general secretary Shailendra Yadav said, 'Our team is practicing in Gurugram. The players are now waiting for the no objection certificate from the Ministry of External Affairs and are hopeful of a positive decision.
Apart from India and Pakistan, teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Nepal and Sri Lanka will participate in the Blind World Cup. India is the last three-time champion in this tournament. It defeated Pakistan twice and Bangladesh once in the finals.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Blind Cricket Council said that whether the Indian team participates or not, the tournament will be held as per the pre-determined schedule. Council President Syed Sultan Shah said, 'Pakistan will organize the tournament as per the pre-determined schedule. Whether the Indian team participates or not will not make any difference to the event. Other teams participating in the tournament have confirmed that they have no problem in playing in Pakistan.
