Washington Sundar Opening Batsman Team India: New Zealand has defeated the Indian cricket team by 8 wickets in the first test match played in Bengaluru. Now for the second and third test matches, BCCI has included Washington Sundar in the 15-member squad of Team India. Now a new update has come out that Washington Sundar has got a place in the squad not as a bowler or all-rounder but as a top order batsman.
India already has two great players in the form of all-rounder and spin bowler in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. In such a situation, if Washington Sundar plays as a bowler or all-rounder spin bowler, then it will be very difficult for him to come into the playing eleven. Let us tell you that Sundar played his last Test match for India in the year 2021. Shubman Gill did not play in the first Test match against New Zealand, so the inclusion of Washington Sundar as a back-up opener is not surprising.
Have opened in domestic cricket
Washington Sundar, while playing for Tamil Nadu in the current season of Ranji Trophy, played a brilliant century of 152 runs against Delhi. He has been promoted to the domestic team and given the role of opening batsman and his performance in this order has also been good. After that performance, Sundar himself had said that he prefers to call himself a top-order batsman.
Washington Sundar said after playing an innings of 152 runs for Tamil Nadu, “I consider myself a top-order batsman. I am very happy that I got the opportunity to bat at number-3. The most important thing for me is that I should be able to do what the team needs most at the time of need, I always think that cricket is a team game. I hope that I will be able to play such big innings continuously.
