Durban: After opener Sanju Samson's second consecutive century, India defeated South Africa by 61 runs in the first T20 International due to the killer bowling of the spinners. In reply, the South African team was reduced to only 141 runs in 17.5 overs. This is India's 11th consecutive win in T-20 International.
Historic day for Sanju Samson
For India, Sanju Samson scored 107 runs in 50 balls while Varun Chakraborty and Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets each giving 25 and 28 runs respectively in four overs. Earlier, Sanju Samson set the record of becoming the first batsman from India and only the fourth in the world to score two consecutive T20 International centuries. Hit seven fours and 10 sixes in his innings. He made a partnership of 66 runs for the second wicket with Suryakumar Yadav (21) and 77 runs for the third wicket with Tilak Verma (33).
Gerald Coetzee won hearts even after losing
For South Africa, Gerald Coetzee was effective with both bat and ball. In bowling, he took the maximum of three wickets for 37 runs, while while batting at number nine, he scored 23 runs in 11 balls, which included three skyscraper sixes. Before the start of the over, South Africa needed 124 runs in 54 balls to win. Klaasen hit a skyscraper six on the very second ball, but after this the game changed. Heinrich Klaasen (25 runs in 22 balls) was dismissed on the third ball and David Miller (18 runs in 22 balls) was dismissed on the fifth ball. If both these batsmen had survived, Africa could have won the match.
