Bengaluru: New Zealand has to play a 3-match Test series against India from 16 October. Just a day before this, New Zealand has suffered a big shock. Its star young fast bowler Ben Sears has been ruled out of the Test series due to a knee injury. Sears suffered left knee pain during training during the recent Test series in Sri Lanka and had a scan in New Zealand last week. His return to India was delayed after the scan revealed a meniscus injury. Initially it seemed that he would be fine by the match, but that did not happen. On medical advice, it was decided to drop him from the series. In his place, uncapped Otago Volts bowler Jacob Duffy has been included in the team in place of Sears and will reach India soon. Otago star Duffy has played six ODIs and 14 T20Is for the Blackcaps and currently has 299 first-class wickets to his name.
Blackcaps head coach Gary Stead said he expected Sears to make a quick recovery. Stead said- We are certainly disappointed for Ben, who made a great start to his Test career during the domestic summer and provides a genuine pace option. It is expected that he will soon be fit and return to the team. He also said – This is an exciting opportunity for Jacob, who has been involved in the Test team before also.
Stead said- We have three tests in front of us. He has every chance to make his Test debut. Stead said it could be challenging to select players at a time when no domestic cricket is being played in New Zealand. Jacob's recent experience playing for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship has certainly put him in the forefront for selection. Let us tell you that the Test series against India will start tomorrow at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
