The return of Indian captain Rohit Sharma in this day-night test is considered certain. Rohit did not play in the first match of this Test series due to personal reasons. Rohit has reached Australia and can take part in the warm-up match of India A and Prime Minister's 11 starting in Canberra from November 30.
It was being claimed in some media reports that apart from Rohit, fast bowler Mohammed Shami can also join the Indian squad soon and play some matches at the end of this series. But Shami has not come to Australia and now reports have come that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not want to rush his return and at present the fast bowler will not go on the Australia tour. Shami had returned to the field a few days ago after injury and performed well in the Ranji Trophy.
Apart from this, there may be a change in the batting order due to the return of Rohit. In Rohit's absence, Rahul opened the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal and performed well. In such a situation, it now has to be seen whether Rahul will continue opening even after Rohit's return? Whether Rohit or Rahul bats at number three will also depend on whether Shubman Gill is fit or not. If Gill is not fit for the match, then either Rahul or Rohit will play at number three in this match.
Gill was not part of the team in the first Test match played in Perth due to a thumb injury. He was injured in an intra-squad match before the Perth Test. According to reports, Gill is not fit yet and doubts have arisen over his playing in the Adelaide Test. Gill has been advised rest for a few weeks and will need some match practice before selection.
Earlier it was believed that Gill would play in the warm-up match to be held in Canberra from November 30 and then return in the Adelaide Test. But due to the injury, medical experts have advised Gill to take rest for 10 to 14 days. Due to this, he will not even play the practice match and it is difficult for him to play in the second test also.
