New Delhi. West Indies' legendary all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has become the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders, hours after retiring from all forms of cricket.
Bravo said in one of his posts on Instagram that my mind wants to play more cricket but my body is no longer allowing it. I can't put myself in a position where my teammates, the fans and the teams I represent right now are disappointed in me. Therefore, with a heavy heart, I announce my retirement from this game.
Bravo achieved many records in T-20 cricket in his 18-year career. He was a part of trophy-winning teams in IPL, PSL and Big Bash. Along with this, he was also a part of the West Indies team that won the T-20 World Cup twice. He took 631 wickets while playing 582 matches in T-20 cricket.
Bravo won five titles in the CPL, three of which he won for Trinbago Knight Riders. For the last few seasons in CPL, Bravo was playing the role of nurturing young talent, the same role is currently being played by Mahendra Singh Dhoni for CSK in IPL. Bravo will be the mentor of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming season of IPL. He will replace Gautam Gambhir.
Bravo recently met with KKR CEO Venky Mysore during the ongoing season of CPL. Apart from KKR, Bravo will also be a part of the Knight Riders franchise in other leagues, which include Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC) and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20).
Mysore said in his statement that we are all excited with the addition of Bravo. His passion for winning and his experience will prove beneficial for the players and the franchise.
Bravo said in a statement that I have been a part of Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL for the last 10 years. Playing for and against the Knight Riders across leagues has made me have a lot of respect for this franchise and the way it operates. The passion of the owners, professionalism of the management and family atmosphere make it a special place. Since I am transitioning from a player to a coach, this is the right platform for me at this time.
