Former Australian opener David Warner has accused Cricket Australia of suppressing the ball controversy of the unofficial Test. Also asked to clarify what happened if the umpires changed the ball during the first match between India A and Australia A.
The 38-year-old former cricketer said- 'The matter has been closed, because the senior Indian team is going to tour Australia for a 5-Test series.' On 3 November, the last day of the 4-day match played in Mackay Queensland, the umpires gave a different ball to the Indian team. Indian players looked unhappy at this, especially Ishan Kishan. He called it a foolish decision.
Warner's whole thing… According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Warner said…
I believe Cricket Australia has to take the final decision. I think the Indian team is going to tour Australia this summer and hence this matter was closed as soon as possible, but if the umpires feel that something has happened, then I am sure further action will be taken on it. I think the umpires or match referee should answer the questions arising in this matter.
What happened? Field umpire Shaun Craig suddenly changed the ball on the fourth day of the match. Then Australia A needed 86 runs to win. Indian players looked unhappy with this. Ishan Kishan also opposed this. During the same conversation, umpire Shaun Craig was heard saying on the stump microphone, 'When you scratch it (the ball), we change the ball. No more discussion, let the game continue. This is not a matter for debate.
When the Indian players once again asked whether they would have to play with the new ball, the umpire said that they would play with the same ball. Within hours of the controversy, Cricket Australia issued a statement denying the incident of ball tampering and saying – 'The umpire had changed the ball because the shape of the ball had deteriorated. No action will be taken against other players including Kishan. The match referee has not found anyone guilty.
