Cricket players of Purvanchal demanded 25% quota from UPCA, Suryakumar Yadav gave the example.

Ghazipur: Leather ball cricket players of Purvanchal have demanded 25% reservation from Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). He says that regional players do not get proper opportunities in the state and national teams, while players from Western Uttar Pradesh and other states are given priority. State President of Cricket Players Association, Arvind Singh, supporting this demand, said that the movement has been started in 17 districts. He claimed that the struggle for the rights of the players of Purvanchal will continue.

Varanasi Zone President Prem Singh raised questions on the selection process of UPCA and said that the players of Purvanchal are being continuously ignored. He alleges that players from cities like Ghaziabad, Meerut, Moradabad and Haryana-Delhi are given preference. At the same time, talented players of Purvanchal lag behind in the selection process.

Purvanchal players lagging behind due to lack of facilities
Local 18 team talked to district level cricketer Dnyaneshwar Sharma. He said that there are neither basic facilities nor proper level of coaching for cricket players in Purvanchal. League matches are rarely organized, due to which the players lack experience. Referring to the selection process held in Kanpur, he said that out of lakhs of participants, not a single player was from Purvanchal. Regionalism and lack of facilities were blamed for this.

Example of Suryakumar Yadav and flaws in the system
Giving the example of Ghazipur cricketer Suryakumar Yadav, Sharma said that his initial training was done in Mumbai, because basic resources of cricket were not available in Purvanchal. Small players are forced to buy bowling machines, nets, and other equipment themselves.

Cricket players of Purvanchal have demanded from UPCA to implement 25% reservation and improve the facilities. He says that regional players should be given equal opportunity so that they can also showcase their talent at the state and national level.
