On Sunday, cricket players demonstrated against the injustice being done to the players of Purvanchal districts in Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) in Muhammadabad Gohna, Mau. This demonstration was led by Cricket Players Association Mau President Shiv Bachan.

Allegation of discrimination in UP

President Shivbachan Yadav said that there are a total of 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh, but UPCA has recognized only 41 districts. He told that 34 districts have not been recognized, which is a big injustice for the players of Purvanchal. Their biggest demand is that 25 percent quota in the UP cricket team should be ensured for players from Purvanchal. Apart from this, if possible, a new cricket association, 'Cricket Association of Purvanchal' should be recognized for the players of Purvanchal. He warned that if their demands are not met, the cricketers of Purvanchal will continue their protest.

Ignoring the players of Purvanchal

Shivbachan Yadav also told that cricket players from the districts of Purvanchal are not included in the Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy, Under-16, 19 and 23 (men and women) teams. If a player is included, he is not given an opportunity to play.

Priority to Western Uttar Pradesh

He also told that in the UP team, players from Western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-Haryana states including Meerut, Ghaziabad, Moradabad are given priority. Whereas players from other districts including Ballia and Mau districts are ignored.

allegations of unethical practices

The UP selectors give preference to players from Western UP, the reason being that some district association officials use their influence to include players from their district in the team. This is an unethical act and the orders of the Honorable Supreme Court are being violated.
