Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and proposed an arrangement under which if India does not want to stay in Pakistan during next year's Champions Trophy due to security reasons, it can Can return somewhere in New Delhi or Chandigarh. The PCB has verbally suggested to the BCCI that the Indian team can camp in New Delhi or Chandigarh or Mohali and travel to Lahore using a special flight for its matches. A PCB source, however, confirmed to PTI on Friday that The board has not given any suggestion in writing. The source said, 'But yes, it is true that these options have been discussed verbally among the officials to ensure that India plays its matches in Pakistan.' The Champions Trophy will be held from February 19 to March 9 in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi.
PCB does not want to hold the final outside Lahore
The Pakistan Cricket Board is mentally prepared that India may refuse to come to play the Champions Trophy, but it is not ready to move the final to be held on March 9 out of Lahore, even if India qualifies for it. The issue of the Champions Trophy final may also come up in the meeting of the board members of the International Cricket Council to be held in Dubai from 18 to 21 October.
Bilateral series has not taken place since 2008
Bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan has been halted since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which 175 people were killed and around 300 were injured. BCCI may request ICC to conduct the tournament on a hybrid model, with its matches being held in Sri Lanka or Dubai.
