India achieved a historic feat at the 45th Chess Olympiad held in Budapest, Hungary, with both its men's and women's teams winning the first gold medal. The victory was as special for the country as its big cricket successes, and fans were equally happy. The celebrations of the chess players reminded one of Rohit Sharma's famous “robotic walk” in the T20 World Cup.
The men's team defeated Slovenia in the final to win the gold medal. Star players like D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa played a vital role especially in the 11th round. At the same time, the women's team defeated Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5 to secure the gold medal in a spectacular fashion.
This is how the celebrations were held after the Chess Olympiad:
After the win, both teams gathered on the podium and celebrated their victory by proudly waving the Indian flag. During this, D Gukesh and Tania Sachdev hilariously imitated Rohit Sharma's “robotic walk” while their teammates cheered them on. This funny moment brought back memories of the famous celebration of the Indian cricket captain.
Prior to this historic win, the Indian men's team had won bronze medals in 2014 and 2022, while the women's team won the bronze medal at the 2022 Chennai Olympiad.
