South Africa Match Fixing: 3 South African cricketers have been arrested for match fixing. These also include the name of Lonwabo Sotsobe, who has represented South Africa in 89 international matches. He has been found accused of corruption on five charges under the Prevention of Corrupt Activities Act. This case is 9 years old when a total of 7 cricketers were accused of match fixing in the Ram Slam Challenge 2015.
The names of these three cricketers arrested recently are Lonwabo Sotsobe, Thami Solekile, Athi Mbalati. The South African Cricket Board had banned all three players for match fixing in the domestic tournament. Ghulam Bodi, Gene Symes and Pumi Matshikwe also came into limelight during the same tournament in 2015. Ghulam Bodi has served jail in the fixing case, on the other hand, Jean and Pumi were suspended after being found guilty. Meanwhile, the case of Tsotsobe, Solekile, Mbalati was adjourned until February 2025.
A seventh player was also involved in this match fixing case, whose name is Alviro Pietersen. Pietersen was once a regular part of South Africa's Test team. When this match fixing case came to light, he was banned for two years. These allegations ruined Pietersen's career in such a way that he could not return to the African team after 2015.
Of these, left-arm fast bowler Sotsobe took 121 wickets in his international career, apart from this he also took 201 wickets in his first-class career. Solekile also played 3 test matches for South Africa, in which he could score only 47 runs. On the other hand, right-arm fast bowler Mbalati could not make his international debut, but definitely took 364 wickets in his first-class career. Let us tell you that Sotsobe had also dismissed famous and legendary Indian batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in his career.
