What is the news?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made some changes in the playing conditions of domestic cricket ahead of the Ranji Trophy season 2024-25, which started on Friday (October 11).

Under this, 4 major rules have been updated. Under this, now a player who retires between innings without any injury or illness will be considered out.

Similarly, during fielding, the bowler or any of his teammates will not be able to use saliva or spit on the ball.

What will happen if you spit on the ball?

According to the BCCI release, now a batsman who retires for any reason other than injury, illness or unavoidable reason will be considered out and will not get a chance to bat again even with the consent of the opposing captain.

Similarly, if any bowler or player applies saliva/spit on the ball during fielding, then a penalty will be imposed on the fielding team and the ball will have to be replaced immediately. Similarly, players will also be warned.

Changes in the rules of over-throw runs also

According to BCCI, when batsmen decide not to take runs after crossing and an over-throw results in a boundary, only boundaries (4 runs) will be added to the score. This rule is in line with the agreement reached during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Changes in marks allocation process in CK Naidu competition also

BCCI has also made changes in the points allocation process related to the CK Nayudu competition.

Under this, if Team 'A', batting first, gets all out after scoring 398 runs in 98 overs in the first innings, then it will be given 4 batting points.

Similarly, if Team 'A' gets 5 penalty runs in fielding then its score will now become 403 in 98 overs. This means that now Team 'A' will get 5 batting points.

Points will be awarded only for the first 100 overs of the first innings.

According to BCCI, these points will be given to any team only on the basis of batting or bowling during the first 100 overs in the first innings. There will be no points of any kind after 100 overs in the first innings or in the second innings.
