Before the T20 World Cup 2024, Babar Azam was again given the captaincy of white-ball cricket.
Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has announced to step down from the captaincy. Babar gave this information by posting on social media X late night on 1st October.
Babar wrote that it was a matter of pride for him to captain the team. But this was increasing the burden. He wants to focus completely on his game.
Pakistan Cricket Board selected Babar as captain again this year. However, questions were raised many times regarding his captaincy. Former selector Mohammad Wasim had called Babar Azam stubborn.
Former selector had said – Babar did not accept the suggestions of selectors
Former chief selector of Pakistani cricket team Mohammad Wasim had made many claims about Babar a month ago. The 46-year-old former cricketer said- 'Babar was very stubborn and often opposed the suggestions given by the selection committee.' Currently, Babar is part of the Pakistani team in the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, although his performance has been poor. He could score only 64 runs in four innings of 2 matches.
Wasim had made these 3 allegations…
- It was difficult to explain the benefits of the changes to Babur. He was very stubborn and I tried hard to convince him but without success. He was not ready to accept the changes.
- The atmosphere in the dressing room was bad because of some players. I tried to remove him as chief selector, but the team management brought him back.
- I won't name names, but 4 coaches told me that a group of players are cancer to the team. If they are part of the team, Pakistan cannot win.
Babar's captaincy remains under question After being out of T20 World Cup-2024, questions are being raised on the captaincy of Babar Azam. PCB made Babar Azam the captain of all formats in 2020. Under the captaincy of Babar, the team reached the semi-finals of the T-20 World Cup 2021 and the final of 2022. But, then after the poor performance of the team in the ODI World Cup 2023, he resigned from the post of captain.
Although, the board had returned the captaincy of white-ball cricket to Babar Azam before the T20 World Cup 2024, but the team's performance was disappointing. Pakistan was eliminated after the group stage round after losing matches against India and America.
Pakistan team was out of the league round in T-20 World Cup 2024.
Wasim removed by PCB in December-2022 Wasim was removed from the post of chief selector by the Pakistan Cricket Board in December 2022. He became the Chief Selector in December 2020. Wasim is currently working as the head coach of Pakistan women's team.
