Sports Desk: India's fast bowling sensation Akash Deep has expressed his admiration for India captain Rohit Sharma. The 27-year-old, who has impressed in his two Test matches so far, attributed the smooth transition from domestic to international cricket to the comfortable atmosphere in the Indian dressing room, which he attributed to Rohit's leadership. Akash Deep, who claimed three wickets in his Test debut against England earlier this year, was picked as the third pacer for the series-opener against Bangladesh in Chennai. He made an immediate impact, taking two wickets with the new ball in Bangladesh's first innings.
Ahead of the second Test, Akash Deep expressed his gratitude to other senior Indian players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for guiding him on the right path. He acknowledged their invaluable support and guidance, which played a key role in his successful transition to international cricket. When I came here, I saw a different level of dedication and hard work from players who are legends of the game and are considered Gods of cricket like Rohit, Virat bhai. I realised that they have achieved a lot and are still working hard during training. Their thought process is at a different level. It motivates me to work even harder, Akash said in Kanpur.
The 27-year-old also praised skipper Rohit's simple leadership style. He said, “Initially I was hesitant that there would be pressure, but Rohit Bhaiya made things so simple. I have not played under such a supportive captain. He keeps things simple, I never felt whether I am playing domestic or international cricket. In the last two years, I have played a lot of cricket. It is not just a three-month season for us. Even after Ranji you play Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup. As a player you need to understand yourself and know your strengths. When we play at this level, we should not get confused that I have played in a certain style at that level (Ranji) and things are different here. I don't put so much pressure that I need to go to Australia and all this. I live in the present. It is simple for me.”
