Scotland Cricket Team: Scotland’s 35-year-old bowler Alasdair Evans has announced his retirement from international cricket. He made his debut for Scotland in 2009 and now with his retirement in 2024, his 15-year career has come to an end. He has taken 58 wickets in 42 ODIs and 41 wickets in 35 T20 Internationals for Scotland. He participated in the ODI World Cup 2015, T20 World Cup 2016 and 2021 for Scotland.
I never thought I would become an international cricketer: Alasdair Evans
Alasdair Evans said that I remember when I made my debut against Canada at Aberdeen Ground, one night I got a call from head coach Pete Steindel. He asked me to join the team as cover. There were a lot of injured players in the squad at that time. I never thought that I would grow up to become an international cricketer. So when the first call came, I thought it was a joke.
He said that it is a privilege to be part of such a great team that has helped grow the game in Scotland, to a level where going to the World Cup is the norm. To see the team now winning games makes me proud. I am honoured to have been part of the team for so many years.
Said thank you to the coach and fellow players
He said that I have been very fortunate to work with some wonderful people during my journey, including teammates, coaches and staff, without whose support I would not have lived the most wonderful fifteen years. I would like to thank each and every one of them for the time and energy they have devoted not only to Scottish cricket, but also to helping support me. I had the opportunity to create many memories.
Evans will be missed: coach Doug Watson
Scotland head coach Doug Watson said Lasdair Evans is a fantastic guy. He is a great example for emerging Scottish bowlers. He has served Scotland with distinction during his outstanding career. He will be missed in the changing room.
