South Africa, who are currently placed 5th in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table, are still in the race to make the WTC final with four matches to go. Two more matches – against Pakistan – are to be played in the remaining cycle. Visitors Sri Lanka are also in the race, currently placed third on the points table, behind only India and Australia.

On the other hand, Jensen and Coetzee last played for South Africa in the red ball format during the tour of India earlier this year. All three players will replace Ryan Rickelton, Senuran Muthusamy and Dan Patterson in the playing eleven. These were all part of South Africa's innings and massive 273-run win against Bangladesh in October.
