Bumrah added another feather to his cap as India's greatest bowler of all-time in field conditions during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth against Australia. India has historically had a weak record in military events and the team has improved its record in the 2000s.
After Kapil Dev, Jasprit Bumrah is the second fast bowler of India, who has taken 5 plus wickets the maximum number of 7 times among the army countries. In a way, in this case Bumrah has equaled Kapil. On the other hand, he has also broken Kapil's record in doing this feat in the fastest time. While Bumrah played only 51 innings to take 5 plus wickets 7 times in Sena countries, Kapil Dev did it in 62 innings.
Now in 27 Tests in international matches, Bumrah has taken 118 wickets at an average of 22.55, in which his best performance has been 6/33. He has taken five wickets a total of seven times. He has tied with Kapil (7) and is followed by BS Chandrashekhar, Zaheer Khan (five wickets six times) and Bishan Singh Bedi, Anil Kumble (five wickets five times).
He is only the fifth Indian captain to take five wickets in Test matches, before him Vinoo Mankad (one), Bishan (eight), Kapil (four) and Kumble (two) have done so. The last Indian captain to achieve this feat was Kumble (5/84), who achieved the feat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2007. Australia won that match by 337 runs. Bumrah has taken five-wicket hauls in Johannesburg, Melbourne, Nottingham, North Sound, Kingston, Cape Town, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam and Perth, making him a brilliant bowler to play in all conditions.
