Perth: Young Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a stellar start to his Test career and says superstar Virat Kohli's advice to be disciplined in every aspect of life has guided his ambition of a long career with the national team.
Yashasvi's career has been brilliant so far
Twenty-two-year-old Jaiswal has played only 14 Tests so far but during this period he has scored runs at an average of more than 56 with the help of three centuries and eight half-centuries. Now he is ready for the five-Test series against Australia starting on Friday. Jaiswal told 'BCCI.TV', 'When I started playing senior cricket, I talked to Virat Paaji about how he manages himself.'
Good habits need to be inculcated for success
He said, 'Paaji (Kohli) told me that if I want to play as much cricket (as he has played) then I have to be disciplined in my daily routine and follow the process. I have seen him (Kohli) do this continuously day in and day out. He inspires me to work on myself and change my habits.
I practice with a plan
After this Jaiswal explained in detail about his daily routine. He said, 'I have always believed in continuity in my work. I always have a plan whenever I go to practice. My focus is on recovery, staying fresh for the next practice and taking care of my diet.
Playing for India is the biggest inspiration for me
Jaiswal said, 'The desire to play for India is my biggest motivation. It is really a privilege to get this opportunity and I am ready for it. The Mumbai batsman agreed with stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah's confidence in the team's ability to adapt quickly to conditions. He said, 'This is a different place. The ball comes at a different height but we all know that and we are mentally prepared. I want to get on the field, see it and be there.
Looking for opportunities in adverse circumstances
Jaiswal knows that finding opportunity in adversity is what separates men from boys and he believes they are ready for challenges. “I always look at it as an opportunity for me to go out there and learn,” he said. People often talk like this happens and that happens but I want to go and face those things and enjoy that smile, that's all I think. Unless you're there (in person) you don't realize what it is.'
