Saha wrote an emotional post on social media

Wriddhiman Saha, who has played an important role in the Indian team, wrote on social media that after a memorable journey in cricket, this season will be my last season. I feel proud to represent Bengal, playing just one Ranji Trophy match before I retire. Let's make this season one to remember!

Saha's form decline

Saha has not been playing regular cricket and after his stint with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, he played his first match after 7 months against Uttar Pradesh last month. The decline in Saha's form can be clearly seen as he was out for zero on 6 balls. Since then, he has faced zero balls and taken three catches in drawn or rain-affected matches.

return to bengal

Saha left Bengal for Tripura in 2022 after a dispute with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Debabrata Das. Debabrata has returned this year only after a two-year tenure (2022-23). Bengal has given him everything and he has done no less for his state, so Saha felt it was only right for him to play his last match.

Didn't get many opportunities because of Dhoni and Pant

Saha, like many wicketkeepers, failed to make a place in the Indian team due to the presence of MS Dhoni. Because of Dhoni, from 2004 to 2019, no one got a chance to represent India in limited overs but things were a little different in Test cricket. Saha got his first chance in 2010, but played only one more Test until Dhoni retired in late 2014. Then came his time to shine. Unfortunately it didn't last long.

Rishabh Pant made his debut in 2018 and went ahead of Saha due to his excellent batting skills. No one doubted that Saha was the better wicketkeeper, but the demands of modern cricket were such that Pant was chosen. After Pant's debut, Saha played only 8 matches, only one of which was outside India.

Played 40 tests for India

Talking about Saha's Test career, he scored a total of 1353 runs for India in 56 innings of 40 Tests at an average of 29.41. During this period, he also scored three centuries with his bat. He played his last Test against New Zealand in 2021 at Wankhede, Mumbai. At the same time, Saha played only 9 ODI matches for India, in which he scored 41 runs at an average of 13.67.
