Cricket Australia extends the contract of head coach Andrew McDonald till 2027

New Delhi : The contract of Australia men's cricket team head coach Andrew McDonald has been extended, under which he will remain associated with the national team till the end of 2027.

Andrew McDonald has enjoyed a successful tenure as coach since taking over from Justin Langer in 2022. He has led the team to its first ICC World Test Championship title in 2023 and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in the same year. The extension means McDonald's will get the chance to defend both trophies.

A Test series in India, the next Ashes tour in 2027 and the World Test Championship (2025-27). He will take charge for the next edition of the 50-over World Cup to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027 during October and November 2027.

Australia is currently the number 1 Test team in the world and is number 2 in ODI and T20. McDonald praised the dedication of the players and coaching staff in helping them achieve such excellent results in recent times.

“I am very fortunate to have an extraordinary group of leaders, players, coaches and staff who are fully invested in the well-being, success and growth of this group,” McDonald said.

Australia are currently in the race to qualify for next year's WTC Final at Lord's to defend the title, with the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series being crucial to their chances.

Australia is currently at second place with 90 points, behind India (98). However, after losing its first series at home in more than a decade, India's points percentage has fallen to 62.82. On the other hand, Australia is not far behind in points percentage with 62.50 points.
