World Test Championship Final Scenario: New Zealand's eight-wicket victory in the first Test match against India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has brought about some major changes in the points table of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). According to the latest update of the World Test Championship standings, India still remains on top, but due to the defeat in Bengaluru, their lead over second-placed Australia has reduced.
The race for the World Test Championship final has become interesting after the eight-wicket defeat against New Zealand in Bengaluru. So far, India has 68.06 per cent points, and they have to play two more Tests against New Zealand in Pune and Mumbai to improve this. After this, a five-match series has to be played in Australia at the end of the year. After India, Australia (62.50 percent) and Sri Lanka (55.56 percent) are in the ranking of the World Test Championship.
India is facing competition from these teams
India currently has 68.06 percent points and has seven matches left in the current WTC. In which two Test matches against New Zealand and five Test matches against Australia are left. To reach the final on its own, India will have to win four and draw two in the next seven matches. If South Africa is successful in winning all its remaining six test matches, then it can reach the 69.44 percent mark.
If South Africa wins each of its remaining six Tests, it can reach 69.44, while Australia can reach 76.32 percent if it wins all its remaining matches. In such a situation, if India gets less than 56 points then there is a possibility of it missing out on qualifying for the final.
Sri Lanka, which still has to play two matches against South Africa and Australia, can have 69.23 percent points if it wins all the matches. Sri Lanka has strengthened its chances of reaching the final by winning the Test series against New Zealand and it is now giving competition to South Africa and Australia.
In such a situation, whether India will reach the final of the World Test Championship or not will depend on the results of India's next matches, as well as the Test series to be held between Sri Lanka and South Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia. Will also depend on. The results of these two series can make the path easier for India and can also create difficulties for it.
On the other hand, the 2021 World Test Champion New Zealand team moved from sixth place to fourth place. He secured fourth position with 44.44 percent marks, leaving behind England and South Africa. The New Zealand team can also aim to reach the top two in the rankings. They have two matches against India and then they will host the England team.
However, it is not going to be that easy for him. If New Zealand wins all its matches then it will be able to reach the maximum win point of 64.29 percent. Apart from New Zealand, even if Pakistan, England, West Indies and Bangladesh win all their matches, they will not be able to achieve 68 percent win points.
Talking about the latest match between India and New Zealand, in the first innings of the Bengaluru Test, the brilliant bowling of the Kiwi bowlers reduced India to just 46 runs in the first innings, due to which New Zealand took the lead in the beginning.
