Due to the first day's play being canceled due to rain, on the second day of the first Test match, Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. In reply, the entire New Zealand team, which came to bat in the first innings, was all out for 402 runs in 91.3 overs. For New Zealand, young star all-rounder Rachin Ravindra played the best inning of 134 runs. Opener Devon Conway scored 91 runs. Apart from these two, Tim Southee scored 65 runs. For Team India, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav took maximum three wickets each. Mohammad Siraj took two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin took one wicket each.
